The Right to Vote

Perhaps not everyone knows that American history is one of my great passions and this new design born from this but not only.As a woman, I wanted to remember a great achievement like the universal suffrage and I wanted to pay homage to two great women and friends who fought and laid the foundations for this to happen: Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony,Two women and friends who spent their existence on women’s rights, they founded in 1869 the first women’s suffrage organizations. the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA), and their determination, along with that of many others, led to the transcription of the 19th amendment. On August 18, 1920, Congress ratified the Nineteenth Amendment, which guaranteed the right to vote to all US citizens regardless of sex.In my design “The Right to Vote” I wanted to include, in addition to the text of the 19th amendment, some of the symbols dear to the suffragettes, like the slogan present in all the signs during the parades “ Votes for Women” embroidered with the traditional colors of the (American) National Woman’s Party: purple, white and gold. (As stated by the Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage: “Purple is the color of loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause. White, the emblem of purity, symbolizes the quality of our purpose; and gold, the color of light and life, is as the torch that guides our purpose, pure and unswerving.”)Finally, I represent Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, at the beginning and end of the word WOMEN because their support for women was fundamentalI dedicate this design to all the women of the world with the hope that in the short future all will have the same rights and the same opportunities and thanks to all the men who fight with them. Thanks to Romina Petrucci for her beautiful threads and to Paola PuntiniPuntini Rizzi for her amazing button.
